I emailed the link to my blog to an old friend in New York City. He replied that he didn’t even know what “blog” was, and humbly suggested that he still lived in the previous century. His answer gave me pause. What is the significance of blogging anyway? I created my first blog account at blogger.com in October of last year, not for the purpose of making journal entries or writing little essays, but to publish my novel. Only about three months ago I gave myself an assignment to write on a daily basis. Now, it’s like brushing teeth—I feel incomplete if I don’t do it every day.

Back to the question I posed to myself: What is the significance of blogging? A discipline, perhaps. I notice that some fellow bloggers have begun to blog with more frequency and lengthier entries, and it’s nice to know that this blogging phenomenon is enabling people to be more connected with written words.
