An easy statement to make is the following: “Science and art require two different parts of the brain, therefore they do not mix.” Many, however, will argue just the opposite: “Scientists and artists have one common aspiration—to achieve perfection, therefore science equals art.”

An apt example is Google’s homepage. The clean and ad-free homepage is, as I understand it, the result of stubborn insistence of the co-founders, Page and Brin. I suspect that some people, to this day, still think Google is some sort of a non-profit, open-source site, what with its minimalist homepage. I can easily imagine how certain graphic artists would love to “pretty it up”, and that some advertising agencies must have tried very hard to convince Google to put “one, just one” ad on its homepage which they claim will generate millions of revenue for the company.

Mr. Page and Mr. Brin have stood their grounds, so far. These two gentlemen know the principle of “the science and art of simplicity", and for that they are about to be rewarded handsomely.
